Company background and Designer Profile
Flora and Wilson
Wilson started Valtcan with Flora in 2018 to bring EDC titanium products to the market. Wilson has a background in Electrical Engineering and Flora has a background in Business and finance. Their first design was a Titanium toothpick holder and dispenser which is still available online. The idea was simply from Wilson’s need for a toothpick after meals and the lack of any real products that fulfilled this need.
What started out as a hobby became quite an adventure from prototypes we made on our spare time to creating Valtcan Inc. that serves those with similar tastes and high standards. The toothpick dispenser took about a year to bring to market after initial concepts, to design, and working with manufacturers. And the lessons learned from that experience still remains invaluable to us.
Today the world is a lot different than the days we grew up in - we played outside with neighbors everyday till sunset. Technology is only accelerating and distractions are fighting for everyone’s attention and drowning out their own thoughts, missions and life path.
We believe nature can heal this and we just need to do nothing in its presence to reconnect with nature, God, our true self and inner peace. This connection, knowing and inner peace is just like what the poet Rumi once said... ” No amount of searching will find this. A perfect falcon, for no reason, has landed on your shoulder, and become yours.”
Our most memorable moments during our family trips to state parks, monuments and trail hikes are the few minutes we just sit still for 5 minutes and give our full attention to nature.

We design, market and bring products we find beneficial to our customers who feel the same way. Our customers expect quality in the material and functional design of their purchases and we promise to meet and exceed this ever increasing standard.

About Valtcan
Valtcan is a titanium gear company founded in 2018 by Wilson and Flora. We design, develop, and manufacture premium Grade 1 titanium products for outdoor adventures, home kitchens, offices, and everyday carry.
Every Valtcan product that touches your food or water is made from uncoated, commercially pure Grade 1 titanium - the same biocompatible material used in medical implants and surgical devices. No chemical coatings. No PFAS. No PTFE. No BPA. No liners. Just titanium.
Why Titanium?
We chose titanium as our sole material because it solves problems that other materials can't.
The Lightest Strong Metal
Titanium has the highest strength-to-weight ratio of any structural metal. It is as strong as steel at 40% less weight. For anything you carry - in a backpack, in a bag, on your belt, in your pocket - this weight difference compounds across every item.
A full Valtcan titanium canteen mess kit (canteen + two nesting cups + lid + case) weighs around 350 grams. The stainless steel equivalent exceeds 700 grams. Over a multi-day hike, that half-pound savings matters.
Biologically Inert
Titanium is the most biocompatible metal on earth. It forms a stable titanium dioxide (TiO₂) oxide layer that does not react with food, water, acids, bases, alcohol, or organic compounds under any normal conditions.
This is why titanium is the standard material for surgical implants - hip replacements, dental posts, bone screws, cardiovascular devices. The human body cannot distinguish titanium from its own tissue.
For cookware and drinkware, this means zero taste transfer. Your coffee tastes like coffee. Your water tastes like water. Your whiskey in a Valtcan flask tastes exactly as it did in the bottle, even after days of storage.
No Coatings, No Chemicals
Many cookware and drinkware products - including some marketed as "stainless steel" or "ceramic" - rely on chemical coatings for non-stick properties, corrosion resistance, or taste masking. These coatings can contain PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, also called "forever chemicals"), PTFE, BPA, or other synthetic compounds that degrade over time.
Titanium requires no coatings. The material itself is naturally corrosion-resistant, non-reactive, and doesn't degrade under heat. There is nothing to chip, flake, or leach into your food. Every Valtcan product that contacts food or liquid is uncoated, pure Grade 1 titanium.
Self-Healing Surface
Titanium's oxide layer is self-healing. If scratched, the titanium dioxide reforms almost instantly upon exposure to air. This means surface scratches - which titanium does pick up with use - have zero effect on the material's corrosion resistance or food safety. A scratched titanium pot performs identically to a new one.
This is fundamentally different from coated cookware, where a scratch through the coating exposes the base metal underneath and can compromise both performance and safety.
No Expiration Date
Titanium doesn't rust. It doesn't corrode in salt water, acidic food, or wet storage. It doesn't degrade from heat cycling. It doesn't wear out.
A Valtcan titanium pot that's been through a hundred backcountry trips, a thousand dishwasher cycles, and years of daily use will be structurally and functionally identical to the day it was made. The surface will develop character - a patina that comes with real use - but the material underneath is permanent.
Our Material: Grade 1 Titanium
Not all titanium is the same. Titanium comes in over 40 recognized grades and alloys, each with different chemical compositions and properties.
Valtcan uses Grade 1 commercially pure (CP) titanium for all food-contact and liquid-contact products. Here's what that means:
Grade 1 has the highest purity of the commercially pure grades - approximately 99.5%+ titanium with tightly controlled limits on oxygen (≤0.18%), iron (≤0.20%), carbon (≤0.08%), and nitrogen (≤0.03%). These limits are defined by international standards including ASTM B265.
Why Grade 1 specifically? The lower impurity content compared to Grades 2–4 provides the highest corrosion resistance and the most stable oxide layer. This makes Grade 1 the optimal choice for anything that contacts food, water, or the human body. It's also the most formable grade, allowing us to manufacture seamless, single-piece constructions with fewer welds.
What about titanium alloys? Grades like Ti-6Al-4V (Grade 5) contain aluminum and vanadium for higher structural strength. These alloys are engineered for aerospace and industrial applications - not food contact. We don't use alloys in any product that touches your food or drink.
What about "titanium-coated" products? Some products marketed as "titanium cookware" are actually stainless steel or aluminum with a thin titanium coating. This is fundamentally different from solid titanium construction. Valtcan products are solid Grade 1 titanium throughout - not coated, plated, or infused.
Our Manufacturing
Titanium is expensive and difficult to work with. This is reflected in our pricing, and we believe in being transparent about why.
Material sourcing. Grade 1 titanium is produced through the Kroll process - an energy-intensive extraction of titanium sponge from ore, followed by vacuum arc furnace melting, ingot casting, and sheet rolling. Each step requires specialized facilities and strict atmospheric control because titanium reacts with oxygen and nitrogen at high temperatures.
Forming. Our products are deep-drawn, stamped, and formed from Grade 1 titanium sheet. Titanium requires different tooling than steel - it has a tendency to gall (stick to cutting tools), generate heat during machining, and spring back after forming. CNC machining of precision components like our percolator filter basket requires carbide tooling and slower speeds.
Laser Welding. Titanium welding must be performed in an inert atmosphere (argon gas shielding) using TIG welding techniques. Exposure to oxygen or nitrogen during welding creates brittleness and corrosion susceptibility. Weld quality is one of the most critical quality indicators in any titanium product - and one of the most common failure points in cheap alternatives.
Heat treatment. Some of our products, including our Wok and StarFrost line, undergo proprietary heat treatment at temperatures exceeding 1000°C (1800°F). This creates a naturally smooth, glossy, scratch-resistant surface that is durable and reflective - without any chemical coating. The finish is part of the titanium itself.
Quality control. Every product undergoes inspection before shipping. We check weld integrity, dimensional accuracy, lid and cap fit, handle function, and surface finish. Products that don't meet our standards don't ship.
Our Product Philosophy
We design products around three principles:
Function first. Every feature earns its place. Bail handles align with pot handles so you can drink directly. Canteens nest into mess kit cups for zero wasted space. Toothpick holders dispense with a single twist. If a design element doesn't improve the product's daily usability, we remove it.
Material integrity. We will never apply coatings, liners, or chemical treatments to the surfaces that contact your food or water. The entire point of using titanium is that the material doesn't need them. If a product requires a coating to function, we don't make it in titanium.
Buy once. We price our products based on what it costs to make them right - from Grade 1 titanium, with proper manufacturing, and built to last indefinitely. A Valtcan product costs more upfront than a stainless steel or aluminum alternative. Over a lifetime, it costs less, because you never replace it.
