The Family Grab-and-Go Kit: What We Would Pack for Four

A customer wrote in last week. He has been buying from us for a while, his family is four and growing, and he is building one grab-and-go kit for all of them. He asked two things: do we do kit pricing, and do we have a recommended setup for four that is not on the website.

The answers are yes and no. Yes, there is kit pricing, and it is at the bottom of this page. No, we do not sell a boxed family kit, because every household carries different gaps. What we can do is tell you exactly what we would pack for four, what we would leave out, and which parts of the kit we do not make.

Read it as a checklist, not a catalog.

The rule the whole kit is built on

Two is one. One is none. Anything in a family kit that can fail needs a backup, and anything that cannot fail is worth paying for once.

That is the reason to build the kit in titanium at all. No coating to burn off. No liner to crack. No rust after a year in a garage bin. The military chose this metal for the same reasons. Grade 1 pure titanium (99.5 percent), no nickel, uncoated, no PFAS, no plastic anywhere in the food path. Every vessel below goes straight over flame, and every vessel below is a way to boil water. That matters more than it sounds, and it comes up again in the water section.

Gap 1: Water

Water is the first gap and the one most kits get wrong. Four people need about four gallons a day, and you will not carry that. You carry the means to make water safe, plus enough vessels to boil, cool, and hand out.

Titanium Canteen Mess Kit, two of them. This is the piece we would start with. A 1.1 liter canteen, a 750 ml mess cup, and a 400 ml cup, nested into one stack that fits the included case with MOLLE clasps and a shoulder strap. Combined capacity 2.25 liters, 350 grams of titanium for all three pieces and the lid. Nested it stands 7.7 inches tall and 6 inches wide. The canteen itself sits on a stove or in coals, so it is a boil vessel, not just a carry bottle. Two kits give a family of four two carry bottles and four boil-capable vessels, and the form factor is the one anyone who served already knows. If you want the history behind that form factor, we ranked the issued canteen systems here.

900 ml Titanium Pot, one. A dedicated boil pot at 134 grams with the lid. Wall is 0.4 mm, so it does not oil-can when you grip it loaded. Bail handle for hanging over coals, side handle for the stove. A 1 liter wide-mouth bottle nests inside it, and the pot nests inside the pressure pot below with the handles folded. It is the pot that lives in the water side of the kit and does nothing else.

On purification, plainly. We do not sell filters or chemical treatment. Our position is that boiling is the purification method that has no cartridge to clog, no expiry date, and no failure point you cannot see. One rolling minute at sea level, three minutes above 6,500 feet. Every vessel on this page does that job. Pair it with a filter of your choosing for silty water, and treat the filter as the backup, not the primary.

1000 ml Titanium Water Bottle. If you want one bottle per person, this is the one. It is backordered and ships November 2026. Ordering now reserves yours from that batch. We list it here so the kit plan is complete, not because you need it on day one. Two canteens cover the carry job until it lands.

Gap 2: Cooking

Two vessels cover four people. The reason is fuel, not menu.

Titanium Pressure Pot 1800 ml. The single most important piece in the kit after water. It runs at 35 kPa, about 5 psi above atmosphere, with a locking lid. That is enough to bring rice, beans, and stew to done in roughly half the open-simmer time, which means roughly half the fuel per meal. In a kit where fuel is the thing you cannot make more of, that math decides the purchase. 1800 ml feeds two to four. The inner pot lifts out, so the shell doubles as a plain pot or a water boiler. 520 grams for the pot, under 590 complete. 7 inches tall, 4.76 inches across, and the 900 ml pot above nests inside it. Five family-size soups that run in it are here.

Titanium Rice Cooker 3200 ml. The whole-table pot. Up to 4 cups of dry rice per batch, feeds six to ten, so one run covers four people twice. It cooks in a water jacket, about 400 ml in the outer pot, so the rice cannot scorch even when someone walks away from the stove, and in an emergency someone will walk away from the stove. A 20 minute timer calls it done. The inner pot has a solid bottom and works as a standalone pot, so this is two vessels, not one. 867 grams complete, packs in its mesh sack.

Stove and fuel: what we do not make. We do not sell canister stoves or fuel, and we are not going to pretend a cookware brand should. Pick a dual-fuel or butane stove you have already run, and store fuel by the two-is-one rule. Our only stove is the Titanium Hot Tent Stove, and it belongs in a different kind of plan: it burns wood, so it has no fuel dependency, the flat top cooks, and it packs to 7.9 pounds in its case with the chimney nested inside. If your plan includes shelter and heat for the family in cold weather, it earns its place. If your plan is a duffel by the door, skip it. The current batch is a preorder shipping November 2026.

Gap 3: Eating

Plates break, bowls do not stack, and paper runs out. Give each person one vessel that is a bowl, a plate, a food container, and a pot, and stop there.

Titanium Bento Box 1200 ml, four of them. A mess tin, not a lunch box. 198 by 144 by 67 mm, shallow and wide, so four of them stack flat in a duffel. Airtight silicone gasket in the lid, a wire hook-lock at each short end, and a long wire bail on the base that folds out so the tin goes directly over a flame with the lid off. 1200 ml is a full dinner with sauce. 254 grams each with the lid and gasket. Cooked food seals in it, cold food travels in it, and it reheats in the same vessel it is eaten from. One per person is the right count.

Titanium Cup 450 ml with lid, four. 2 ounces each, 2.5 with the lid, single wall so it goes over flame. Folding handle. Each one nests inside the 900 ml pot or any larger Valtcan pot. Four cups is four more ways to boil a small amount of water, which is how you make coffee, formula, or a hot drink for a kid without lighting the big pot.

Titanium 3-in-1 Spork, four. One solid piece, fork, spoon, and a serrated edge, 24 grams, no hinge to fail and nothing to lose. One per person, tied to the person's bento with a cord.

Titanium Flatware Set, one. Full dinner-size fork, knife, spoon, and teaspoon, 105 grams for all four. One set for the adults doing the cooking and serving. Sporks handle the rest.

How it packs

Nesting is the difference between a kit that fits in one bag and a kit that fits in three.

The 400 ml cup goes in the 750 ml cup, the canteen seats on top, and the stack goes in its case. Twice. The 450 ml cups drop into the 900 ml pot, and the 900 ml pot, handles folded, drops into the pressure pot shell. Four bentos stack flat on the bottom of the bag. The rice cooker rides in its mesh sack beside them. Sporks in the bentos. That is the whole kitchen for four in one duffel, under 4 kilograms of titanium, and none of it will be a different shape in ten years.

The kit, priced

One pressure pot, one 3200 rice cooker, one 900 ml pot, two canteen mess kits, four bento boxes, four 450 ml cups, four sporks, and one flatware set.

List total: $1,234.47.

Kit pricing, entered at checkout:

FAMILYKIT takes 12 percent off any order of $750 or more. The kit above lands at $1,086.33.

FAMILYKIT15 takes 15 percent off any order of $1,500 or more. Add the hot tent stove to the kit above and the order crosses that line: $1,733.47 list, $1,473.45 with the code, which puts the stove in the kit for an effective $387.

Both codes are live, both apply to any combination of products, and neither expires. They exist so a family can buy the whole kit once and be done with the decision.

What we left out, and why

The percolator is the coffee piece most of our veteran customers would add, and it is backordered until November 2026. The wok ships late October, and the 250 ml canister is backordered as well. Ordering any of them now reserves yours from the incoming batch. We left them off the priced kit so that everything above ships the day you order it.

Cup stock is low as this is written. If you want four, order sooner rather than later.

If your headcount or your storage is different from the kit above, email us with the number of people and whether the kit lives in a vehicle or in packs. We will size it. The plan used to be for a unit. Now it is for them.
