How It Works

Camp Dinner in 3 Steps

Fill

Ingredients in, water to the graduated line for rice, or cover by 3/4 inch for stews and beans. The etched markings do the measuring.

Lock & Set

Twist the lid until the two handles align, one above the other. Set it in the coals or on the flame. When steam shows at the steel stem, start your timer.

Release & Eat

Pull it off, let it cool naturally or ease the valve open, wait a minute or two, unlock. Tender stew, fluffy rice, fuel still in the bottle.

Before you order

This is a 5 psi pot, not a 15 psi kitchen cooker. It cooks about 1.8x faster than an open simmer: a tough cut that braises three hours open finishes in roughly 65 to 100 minutes sealed. Rice lands in under 20 minutes. If a recipe chart online assumes 15 psi, its times will leave your food undercooked in this pot, so use about half your normal open-pot time instead.

Packed size is 7 inches tall by 4.76 inches across: it feeds 2 to 4, and it is a backcountry and small-kitchen tool, not a family batch cooker. Pot body is 520 grams exact, under 590 grams complete. Put it on your scale when it arrives.

What does it actually weigh?
520 grams for the pot body. Under 590 grams complete with lid and valve. Those are scale numbers, not rounded marketing numbers.
How does the altitude claim work?
Thin air lowers the boiling point, roughly 2°F per thousand feet, which is why beans and rice stall up high. The locking lid holds 35 kPa above whatever ambient pressure you are at, so where an open pot boils at 95°C or lower, this one is restored past sea-level performance. It is the same physics at any elevation; the win just gets bigger the higher you camp.
Can it really go straight in the coals?
Yes. Bare titanium takes direct flame without damage and there is no coating to burn off. Rake a level spot in the coal bed, seat it, and cook. The wire handles wear silicone grips, but coming off a fire, use a glove. Scorch marks are normal and permanent, and they are not damage.
Will it nest with my setup?
The pot is 7" tall by 4.76" across with both handles folded flat. The Valtcan 900ml titanium pot nests inside it, so one packed cylinder carries two pots.
Is it worth the weight over my aluminum pot?
Straight answer: a bare aluminum pot is cheaper and about as light, and if you only ever boil water on a canister stove it will serve you fine. What aluminum will not do is hold pressure in a locking system, sit in direct coals trip after trip without softening and pitting, or skip the coating most aluminum cookware needs. This pot exists for pressure plus fire plus decades, and that combination is the reason it costs more.
Is 35 kPa safe?
It is a mild pressure, far below household pressure cookers, with a relief valve, a gasket seal, and spare valves included. Cool it naturally or release the valve slowly, wait 1 to 2 minutes, then unlock. The lid will not fight you once pressure is down.
What can I cook in it besides rice?
Stews, beans, soups, tough cuts, vegetables, pasta. The inner pot lifts out, so the 1.8L body also works as a plain pot and water boiler, which is what it will spend most of the trip doing.
Field cleanup?
Warm water and a hand of sand or a soft scrub in the field; titanium does not hold flavors and cannot rust. At home it is dishwasher safe with the handles and valve removed.

Store owner replied: Hi Greg, Please remove and wash the silicone ring after every use. Food residue on the ring or in the groove is the most common cause of a leak or a stiff lid. Second, check the orientation of the silicone ring and make sure the longer edge of the silicone ring is facing the bottom. If neither fixes it, email me directly and I’ll take care of it. Wilson

Handy capacity and dimensions. It will hold a couple of pounds of bite sized meat. Pressure cooking keeps everything moist and tender without boiling off the spice flavors. The pressure is low (5 #'s) so it takes longer to cook than a traditional pressure cooker. Best used for soups and stews.

First cook, beef stew, went just OK. When i browned the beef i used the pot insert, wrong. It scored the bottom pan, im guessing no big deal. Stew was cooked OK. Im sure it only gets better with some experience. Actually a great product, easy clean up. Can’t wait to try again. It’s now in my camp cookware box.

Store owner replied: Hi Steven The pot's handle and lid handle are both designed to be removable for cleaning. To engage the pot's handle to lock position, flip it downwards until it locks into place. When lifting the pot, do not squeeze the handle in the middle like a typical handle. This will disengage the lock and the handle will tilt or pop out. Instead, pick up the handle near the end with palm facing upward and thumb on top over the handles with lifting action - no squeezing. We recommend using a ladle or long spoon to scoop out meals and soup. If you must tilt the pot to pour out contents, wear gloves and use a hand to secure inner pot while other one lifts and tilts pot.

I have yet to take it camping, I have used it several times on a glasstop electric range. I am dialing in how to use to make a one pot (two additions of ingredients) batch of rice and beans. So far, 1/2cup of dry pinto beans with water to about 1.5"~2" depth over them, with salt, pepper, and bouillon powder for 30 minutes -- quick release -- and then rice and water in equal measure, 1/4 cup, and other seasonings for 20 more is working well.
