If the Water Is Suspect, Cook It in the Bottle

Single-wall titanium does something no insulated bottle can: it goes straight into the fire. Take the lid off, set it in the coals or on a gas or electric burner, and boil your water in the same vessel you drink from. Questions, Answered Straight

Can I really boil water directly in this bottle?
Yes. Remove the lid, set the bottle over a campfire, gas stove, or electric cooktop, and boil. The reinforced bottom prevents warping. Never heat it with the lid on, and use tongs or a glove to lift it. Induction cooktops will not heat it.
Why single wall instead of insulated?
Weight and capability. Insulation doubles a bottle's weight and makes it fire-proof in the wrong sense: flame destroys vacuum bottles. Single wall keeps this at 219 g and turns it into an emergency pot. If you need cold drinks all day, this is the wrong bottle; if you need one vessel that does everything else, it is the right one.
Does titanium change the taste of water?
No. Grade 1 titanium is biologically inert, the same material class used in surgical implants. It never leaches chemicals, metals, or flavors, even after long storage. There is no coating on this bottle.
Is it dishwasher safe?
Yes. No coating to wear off. The gasket pulls out of the lid for a thorough clean, and the wide mouth makes hand washing easy. Steel wool is fine too; scratches around the lid and cap are normal with use and completely safe.
What comes in the box?
The bottle, the titanium screw lid with folding bail handle and gasket, and the custom carrier: MOLLE webbing, removable paracord handle, adjustable and removable shoulder strap, and two pockets sized for a phone, keys, and a slim wallet.
Will it dent?
Titanium at 0.6 mm resists dents far better than aluminum and shrugs off drops that crack plastic. Hit it hard enough and you can mark it or dent it, but a dent is all it will be: no liner to fracture, no coating to chip, no rust to start. It wears in, not out.
Why is the metal changing color after fire use?
Heat brings out gold, bronze, and blue oxide tones in titanium. The tint is a few atoms thick, purely cosmetic, and permanent. Most owners consider it earned.

Big fan of the actual bottle itself, however it leaks from the cap. No gasket was included so I am not sure if that is a mistake during manufacturing/packing or if just how the product comes. Update - After leaving my initial review Valtcan immediately reached out to me and corrected the issue. Which made this water bottle perfect in my opinion. Couldn’t be happier.

In my effort to go plastic-free and yet remain ultralight for backpacking, this bottle really nails it. One thing that you guys ABSOLUTELY should change is the inner diameter of the mouth. Every other bottle is 53 mm and the Valtcan is 53.8 mm. Seems small, but none of the splash guards work. I highly recommend making the diameter standard or offering your own splash guard.

Great bottle, could use improvements. My bottles take a beating. Especially camping, any steel bottle I've had ends up getting dents on the bottom and eventually can't stand straight or gets wobbly. Titanium is a great alternative, however this Titanium still gets dented. I think if they added even a mm or 2 of extra Titanium on the bottom 1/2 inch of the bottle it would make a big difference. To be clear, it's way harder to dent this bottle than any other bottle I've ever had. My second issue I have is the lid. It's insanely loud, so loud I almost returned it immediately. A thin layer of plastic or rubber on the inside of the lid would be a big improvement, but of course we still want it to be able to survive a camp fire. My suggestion is to either make a flip up spout in the Titanium lid so I don't have to unscrew it every drink, or have 2 lids with each bottle one for cooking/durability and the second one can be plastic so it's quiet. The reason I did not try to return it is because I found a lid to another bottle that fit. I hardly ever write reviews but since I paid almost $100 for this, and I think it is really close to being a perfect bottle, I figured I provide my feedback.

I really like this water bottle! It's slightly slimmer than a nalgene, which I like, and it is super lightweight. My only minor suggestion would be to polish the threads on the cap and the bottle to make a smoother screwing of the lid experience. The bottle threads are slightly polished, but the threads on the cap are not so there is some grinding when you tighten it down. Both sets of threads need to be polished for a smooth tightening experience. I'm sure they will smooth out with use, but that's the only reason for deducting one star. You do have to tighten the lid fairly hard, otherwise it will leak. This experience would also be improved with smooth threads. Overall, it's a great bottle and I'm looking forward to years of use! Definitely recommended!

Aesthetics, volume, thicker wall are notable well-done features. I would like see a small rectangular loop fitted on the shoulder of the tank to enable tying a bit of cord between it and the lid to prevent loss. I do not care for the type of plastic connections for the braided core and D-Rings on the carrier. The outside bag is still too narrow to handle complete storage of firestarting or water-purification devices.
